Percutaneous radiofrequency thermal ablation is a minimally invasive technique that has demonstrated significant promise for hepatic malignancies and other disorders. In this review, we discuss the clinical experience with percutaneous RFA of the liver, examine the evidence for its use in hepatic malignancy, and assess its future role in the management of liver disease. Published data is discussed regarding how RFA may be performed, the safety of this technique, the technical aspects of treatment and potential role in local-regional treatment and palliation. Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy and safety of percutaneous RFA for the treatment of primary and secondary liver malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma, colorectal hepatic metastases, hepatic leiomyosarcoma, and non-hepatocellular lesions. RFA is well tolerated and has a low rate of major complications. RFA is an important modality for the treatment of malignant and benign disease of the liver. In combination with other techniques, it may be used for the treatment of liver malignancy and metastases, the relief of primary and secondary liver diseases, and palliative treatment of unresectable malignant disorders.Sankhu Sankhu, also spelt 1cdb36666d
